This blog explores the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of total health with some children's stories thrown in to break the intensity.

Little Liam

On our trip to visit the kids this past weekend, we made a trip the zoo with two sons, Inci and the grandkids. This story really exhibits no new discovery, but rather a confirmation of an age old truth. Males, from a very early age, have an affinity for things with wheels.

At the zoo, Liam and Ellie were both mildly interested in the animals. However, we finally came to the “cage “ that completely captured Liam’s attention.

The zoo was under construction, therefore there was a large variety of earth moving equipment. Tim, who is “Dad” to Ellie and Liam, stopped at the fenced off section with this equipment.

Liam was enthralled as Tim explained, “There is a daddy excavator and a mommy excavator. Over there is the baby excavator.” Then Tim turned to another fenced off section with a lone dozer. “And that”, Tim expostulated, “is a wild excavator.”

We stood for many moments so that Liam could soak in this rare and wonderful species of zoo animals. Finally we turned to go, with Liam in Tim’s arms.

Liam’s face crumpled in disappointment, and then the tears started as he held out his 20 month old little arms to the earth movers. “Excavators!” he cried in heart-rending sobs. “Excavators!” His little heart was broken at leaving the best exhibit in all of the zoo.
